Off the Beaten Path is about the destination being remote. Expedition Diving is about the diving being advanced: conditions, depth, and self-reliance. Many trips are both.

What if the weather blows out a day?

The guide moves to a sheltered site or calls it. On expedition trips there is no refund for weather days; that risk is part of the price. Ask the operator how many days they typically lose on that route.

Where do these trips go?

Southern Komodo, Raja Ampat's outer islands, the Banda Sea, Wolf and Darwin in the Galapagos, Cocos, Socorro, the Solomons, and the Sea of Cortez in autumn.

The boat leaves when the tide is right, not at 8 am. The sites are chosen by the guide the day before based on conditions. The lodging is whatever is there. If that sounds like the right kind of trip, you are an expedition diver.
